IMPORTANT: READ THIS!

This community is for those who love budgerigars (a.k.a. budgies, parakeets, 'keets, etc.). It is important that you keep in mind that our members take the care of these animals very seriously and while we will do our best to help you with any questions or concerns, we will not sugar coat the information we hand out. We won't tolerate lame excuses that attempt to justify cruelty and we will not hold your hand and tell you that it's ok to abuse or neglect your budgie. We are not here to scold, lecture, or belittle others but we will do our best to educate others as well as learn from our mistakes. We're not here to tell you what you want to hear. We're here to tell you what you need to hear.

Also keep in mind that we are not veterinarians and cannot diagnose your budgie. An obviously sick budgie is usually an emergency and time shouldn't be wasted in taking him/her to your avian vet.

Aside from educating others on the proper care of budgies, we love to share stories, pictures, and talk about them in general. There will be photo contests and respectful, educational, debate is welcome.

THE RULES:
Treat each other politely and with respect, even during disagreement. Name calling will not be tolerated. There are plenty of ways to strongly make a point without resorting to personal attacks.

If you're going to post a picture please make sure that it is no wider than 600 pixels. If you're posting more than one picture, put the rest behind an LJ CUT. It would also be appreciated if you cut text posts that are extremely lengthy.

Promoting another community is fine as long as it somehow relates to budgies or birds in general.

I would greatly appreciate it if you didn't overly use net speak. I'm not going to be picky about this but would still like it if our members made their posts as easy to read as possible. I don't expect you to start typing out "oh my god" for instance. Just try not to overdo it and make your post one big abbreviation. Many people around the world use Livejournal and English isn't always their first language. Just keep it in mind, especially when helping others with their questions. :) We haven't had a problem with this in the past at all, I just thought I'd point it out anyway.

Don't give false advice. If you don't know the answer feel free to help the poster find the answer to their question but don't go pulling things out your bum just to sound knowledgeable. We'll soon have a fairly comprehensive resource to help with things like this but in the meantime, be responsible with your advice.
